Subramanian, Dr. Sm Joshi, Dr. IC Dudani, Dr. SS Rao, Dr. SA. kale, Dr. VS Sabane, Dr. MS. SH Hirani, etc. to name a few were the Teachers who shaped me and my life. There was an excellent academic ambiance in the college with a lot of clinical material available for learning Dentistry, with superb guidance from all the teachers. I owe everything to all my beloved Gurus what i was during my active teacher ship and administrative head of Dental Institutions. I owe humble gratitude to them for significantly contributing to my success in life. During the last about 54 years of its existence, my Alma Mater had progressed quite very well and earned name and fame nationally and internationality for achieving a great deal of standards in imparting quality education to the students, both at UG and PG level and rendering the yeoman Dental Services to the patients not only in Vidarbh but also from neighboring states. I fervently hope that under the dynamic leadership of present young, able Dean, Dr. Abhay Datarkar, the Institute will attain the zenith of grandeur in the field of dental education, possibly with opening up of superspecilities in various detal Subjects and improved patients services and care. I am proud to be a GDCH, Nagpur Alumni. with regards and best wishes….. . (Dr. Ramesh Kohad)

DR. RAMESH KOHAD

A quest for knowledge led to a lifetime of friendship. Sixth July 1971, thirty of us walked through the portals of GDCH Nagpur. We were the pioneer 4th Batch. We ambitiously entered with a thirst for knowledge towards a career in Dentistry. We were rewarded with an eminent teaching faculty and an assorted category of staff, who were part of our training. We had great teachers amongst them. To recollect a few (Apologies if inadvertently not mentioned or deceased-OM NAMA SHIVAAYA) Dr.V.Subramaniam, late S.V.Bhagvat Late.Prof.S.M.Joshi,Dr.K.V.Subbarao, Dr.Mrs Veena Subbarao,, Late Prof.Dudani, Dr.J.N.Khanna late Prof.S.S.Rao, late Prof M.V.Lele, Dr.V.S.Sabne, Prof. B.S.Arya Dr.H.S. Dhooria, Dr.V.J.Maknojia.Fondly remember all the teaching and non-teaching staff at GDCH Nagpur during my undergraduate days. Our professors and teaching faculty educated us on the foundations in the Art and Science of Dentistry. Teaching us the finer skills whilst moulding us into the future graduates in BDS. Preparing us to face the real world and our professional livelihood. Additionally, they played roles as fathers and mothers and friends for us, foreign students thousands of miles away from Malaysia and other countries. Whilst educating us professionally, they also taught us lessons in life. Fifty years on we can with pride say, we are graduated from GDCH Nagpur, Maharastra State, India. In dedicating this tribute to my Alma Mater, I cannot forget my 1971 batchmates and fellow collegemates. They treated me as one of them. Assisting, accommodating, and welcoming me into their homes. My sojourn in India could not have been more memorable.

Dr. Rajamalar Rajadurai

My Alma mater, the GDC Nagpur in true sense is, was and shall ever remain my ” Caring and Nourishing Mother” or “Bountiful Mother” as it literally means. When I was an Under graduate student at GDC Nagpur, it was the 17th and the youngest Dental Institute to be established in the country. In Spite of being a stakeholder of this young institute, I was privileged to have great teachers, outstanding role models and exemplary mentors. Dentistry was not as evolved as it is today nor did this institution have the legacy of the colleges established long ago in Mumbai and other parts of the country, but the stakeholders were highly motivated and determined. As the dust settled and the institution got steadily established, it carved a place for itself in the country and the world. It is indeed an honor and privilege to be the proud alumnus of GDC Nagpur. Whatever I could achieve in my career, it is because of my alma mater. The institute has pioneered in shaping the careers and professional contours of many Dental professionals. Apart from knowledge and skill, the entire ethos of professionalism and humanity like leadership qualities , zeal to excel, dedication and devotion to duty, engraved with values such as sympathy, empathy, service before self, profound respect for teachers, fellow colleagues, patients, elders were imparted to all the privileged alumni. The blend of quality education and virtues and values created many outstanding professionals, teachers, researchers, administrators who established themselves at National and International levels to become role models and icons, who inspired generations. This is the rich legacy of my Alma mater, the one and the only ‘GDC Nagpur’. I bow my head in reverence to this legendary institute. To conclude the lines written by Mena Kumari, a poetess par excellence are most befitting for GDC and its Alumni ” Aaghaz to hota hai, anjam nahi hota, jab tak mere afsane me tera naam nahi hota”

Dr Rajiv Borle

It is with a sense of nostalgia of one of the best periods of my life that I write about my time at GDC Nagpur for not only did I meet my spouse here, I had the privilege of being taught by stalwarts of dentistry in my P. G. such as Dr. H. S. Dhooria in Oral Medicine Diagnosis and Radiology and Dr. D. S. Gupta in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. I joined my Alma Mater in 1982, completed my graduation in 1986, my first PG in Oral Medicine Diagnosis and Radiology in 1989 and my second PG in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in 1992. My teachers included Dr. A. T. Bibiji, Dr. Vinay Hazare, Dr. Pushpa Hazare, Dr. R. Y. Mandlik, Dr. Kharat, Dr. Dolas and Dr. Modi. Their teachings guide my clinical practice today and I continue their tradition with my students. These teachings, I would like to say, were relevant not only then, but are becoming more and more relevant as time passes. I remember I was once told that my clinical judgement should not need the corroboration of a pathology report and today not only does it not most usually, I insist the same with my students. During my last visit to my college, I was overjoyed with immense elevation in the standards of training that now exist here. My peers who have taken the responsibility of imparting dental education at the dental college are doing an excellent job. The modern is well balanced with tradition implying that patient care has progressed at pace with technology along with training in dentistry. The public interface of the college has improved over the years with the inclusion of the department of Public Health Dentistry which recently conducted an oral health awareness, screening and treatment event. Such programs must be increasing the volume and variety of clinical material available to the college thus increasing the level of training for students, benefitting society by way of dental services and ultimately providing competent dentists to society. This is reflected in the magnitude of the number of patients who have been treated here : over 10 million. Cultural life on the campus has become all the more lively. Now dental education is also entwined with cultural activities and a number of CDE program have been conducted. Everything about such a campus is commendable. Reminiscing days spent at one’s alma mater is always nostalgic. Everyone thinks that their’s were special. I wish to submit that mine were too.
