World No Tobacco Day Observed in GDCH, Nagpur.
To spread awareness about ill effect of tobacco, world’s no Tobacco Day is observed every year on 31st may. Government Dental College and Hospital Nagpur have always been pioneer in tobacco fight since its establishment, following the tradition this year also various programs were conducted in span of a three day on world no Tobacco day
1. Memorandum of Understanding was signed between Govt Dental College and Hospital Nagpur and Susanskar Bahuuddeshiya Sanstha, Nagpur for adopting 10 villages located in tribal areas. Main moto behind village adoption is to create awareness about oral health, to provide basic treatments for underprivileged population who do not have access to dental treatment. The department of public health dentistry GDCH Nagpur will be conducting oral health screening, treatment of basic dental problems & tobacco cessation counselling by specialists with regular follow-up at each of these villages.
2. Anti-tobacco awareness was carried out via Nukkad Natak performance by 3rd year student for the staff at the Ganesh Peth bus depot.
3. Department of public health also organised Oral precancer and cancer screening camp for bus drivers and other staff as they have habit of chewing tobacco for various psychological and occupational reasons.
4. Department of public health dentistry along with Dept of oral pathology organised a two-day training module for interns to enable them for effective tobacco cessation counselling.
5. Role play competition was also organised for interns, to give them a real-life experience in tobacco counselling.
Concluding program was organised on 1st June in the presence of the chief guest Mrs Pratibha Patil, corporator civil lines Nagpur & Guest of honour Ajay Patil a renowned social worker. Logo of department of Public Health Dentistry was released, by the hands of the Chief guest. Digital Tobacco de-addiction campaign was launched, and was appreciated by all. Dr. Abhay Datarkar, Dean, GDCH Nagpur assured that institution will try to reach the each & every unreached population through de-addiction campaign. Dr. Akshay Dhoble was given a certificate of appreciation for conducting 2-day intern training module for tobacco cessation.
The 3 day long programs was organised under the guidance of Dr. Sachin Khatri Associate Professor and Head Department of Public Health Dentistry. Dr Akshay Dhoble, Dr.Dipak Ghatage, Dr. Shilpa Warhekar, Dr. Noopur Kokane, Dr. Aniket Dhote, Dr Niharika Mistry played a vital role in making the program successful.
