On 13th Feb, on the auspicious occasion of International Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon’s Day, Government Dental College and Hospital , Nagpur hosted an exciting array of events to spread awareness about pertinent topics such as Road traffic safety and primary trauma care. It was organised by the Department of Oral and maxillofacial surgery under the guidance of our dynamic dean Dr Abhay Datarkar Sir and executed by the head of the department Dr Prashant Pandilwar Sir and Dr Varsha Manekar Maam . Great enthusiasm was shown by the junior residents of the department in the planning of the event to the every last detail. A day prior on 12th Feb free dental extractions were done in the below poverty line areas in the Nagpur in service of the general public and to spread awareness of the branch of oral and maxillofacial surgery. Today the event began with the speech about awareness and road safety protocols and the importance of Oral and Maxillofacial surgery in the society by Dr Varsha maam who then Felicitated the acting dean Dr Bhad maam who was standing in for Dr Datarkar sir who could not be present for the occasion, but his inspirational presence could be felt amongst all of us. Then Dr Vandana maam felicitated Dr Pandilwar sir . This was followed by a fun quiz competition for the under graduate students. After which the crowd dispersed for a bike rally to spread awareness about road safety particularly in terms of seat belt wearing and helmet wearing while driving to prevent road traffic accidents . Finally the day ended with the OMFS themed collage making competition for under graduates. The event was a tremendous success enjoyed by all . The valedictory function for quiz and collage making competition winners will be held on 14th Feb in the presence of our Dean , Dr Abhay Datarkar Sir .
