Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery
Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery is one of the nine specialty of dentistry which includes the diagnosis, surgical and adjunctive treatment of diseases, injuries and defects involving both the functional and aesthetic aspects of the hard and soft tissues of the oral and maxillofacial region. It is a surgical specialty focusing on reconstructive surgery of the face, facial trauma surgery, the oral cavity, head and neck, mouth, and jaws, as well as facial cosmetic surgery.
The department started functioning with Under Graduate Admission in the year 1968 whereas Post Graduate Admission started in the year 1981. The department is mainly divided into undergraduate/exodontia section, postgraduate section, operation theatre complex and IPD ward section where major surgery patients are admitted.
The prime objective of the undergraduate and postgraduate training program is to acquire knowledge, skills of examination, understanding the etio-pathogenesis, diagnosis and treatment planning of various maxillofacial surgical problems.
The training program in oral and maxillofacial surgery is structured to achieve the following objectives –

We have a fully equipped Operation theatre and ICU for comprehensive patient care. Major cases like craniofacial anomalies, Jaw pathologies, cleft lip—palate, Ankylosis of TMJ, Facial Fractures, Malignancy, Orthognathic surgeries, TMJ arthroscopy etc are routinely performed in the department .
State of Art minor O.T caters to the minor oral surgery needs of the patients wherein day care surgeries like removal of impacted teeth, management of cyst and tumors of the oral cavity, pre-prosthetic surgery, biopsies, and dental implants are performed on routine basis.
Alongwith undergraduate and postgraduate training, Department is also having University fellowship course in craniofacial trauma and Phd course in maxillofacial surgery. The intake capacity of postgraduates is three students per year, fellowship is two per year and Phd is Six students per year.
